The walls and defensive structures on the city side are illuminated by low-angle white lighting. The lighting hangs at the foot of the walls, like a rising mist, and seems to be of low intensity, reinforcing the ‘mysterious’ aspect of the fortress. The whole thing stands out from the hill, ‘floating’ in the landscape, like a reassuring landmark.
The Cour d’Honneur, the historic heart of the Castle, features warm golden lighting, visible in the gun ports, playing on the depth of the building.
During festivities, ‘cascades of blue light’ flood the hillside to connect the castle to the city.
